Public Art Plaza at the Ontario Forensic Science Centre and Coroner’s Complex

Popovich’s Kendall Flower collaborated with architect, artist and sculptor Steven Beites from Beites + CO., to design and oversee implementation of a public art plaza at the corner of Morton Shulman St. and Wilson Avenue, in North York, Toronto. Installation services were provided by Gerd Hermanns Landscape Contractors, with concrete works by Torres Hardscapes Inc.
The project involved blending the new plaza space with surrounding hardscapes in a constrained, urban context. Raised circles on the CNC routed custom pavers create a patterned shadow of leaves beneath the Trillium Flower Sculpture and seating area. The permeable paver base aggregate layers and raised planting beds function as storm water detention zones.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the vision, quick approvals turnaround and quality execution on this one – we are so pleased with the end result.
More photos to come once plant material matures!
