Shimmerman Penn's 6th Annual Architecture, Engineering & Design Event, Creating and Sustaining Momentum in Toronto: Assessing outcomes and planning for a visionary future, was held on Thursday, November 5 at the Gardiner Museum.
The discussion proved to be very candid and open dialogue between panelist and audience debating the merits and shortcomings of numerous initiatives and policy decisions from all levels of government.
The event started with a keynote presentation by John Campbell, President and CEO of Waterfront Toronto, following into a panel discussion including panelists representing WZMH Architects, architectsAlliance, Artscape, Urban Land Institute and TAS Developments.
The session was based on a perceived new openness toward cultural, event and design spending that is of great benefit to Toronto’s public realm brought on by the success of the Pan Am Games and Waterfront Toronto's development programs. The questions the symposium posed were, Now what? How can the City capitalize on these successes in a way that sustains an upward trajectory?
